Dark City (1998) : Movie Review
Neo-noir science fiction film Story and Direction by Alex Proyas,
An unquestionably vivid and nightmarish production!
DARK CITY is an inspiring and strange experience, bursting of stunning metaphors and controlling allegory.
Alexander Proyas {The Crow (1994), I, Robot (2004), Knowing (2009), Gods of Egypt (2016)} wrote the story of Dark City in 1998 and directed the film by himself. Screenplay was written by Proyas, Lem Dobbs, and David S. Goyer.
The dark tone used in the whole movie put the audience in a spectacular phenomenon of thrill and mystery which present as a dystopian story in noir environment; it signifies the Plot as a splendid visual experience.
An amnesic man, a deranged Doctor, a clueless police inspector and an enigmatic woman all are fallen in a cobweb of continuous conundrum in a perpetual dark city where the sun never shines ever.
Every citizen life is rearranged at everyday midnight time in this city, peoples are treated like guinea pig by a circle of strange Extraterrestrials beings who have a hive mind experimenting on human just to see what make them “TICK”.
Alex Proyas succeeded to create a background of horror in this SyFy movie which rattle the Audience without any doubt. Specially in the climax when we find out “it’s Full of Stars” scene.
The Dark City is uniquely written and executed by the screen players, It is truly respectful as a profound syfy cult classic and a fantastic journey into the darkness under the neon light.
The film was nominated for the Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation and won six Saturn Awards.
